If you are considering registering for the 2024-2025 Leadership Academy, please be aware that there is a $1500 stipend available to assist with lodging costs for an attendee who lives more than 100 miles from the program location. This stipend will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please apply early if you are interested.

If you are already skilled on a topic, you should consider the APWA Certification program, administered by APWA national. This program is a great way to provide you with professional credibility for having a high level of experience and knowledge in a field. Certification is available in the five areas below:

  • Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII): Targeted towards individuals involved in the inspection and assessment of public infrastructure such as roads, bridges and utilities.
  • Certified Public Works Professional–Supervision (CPWP-S): Specific to public works supervisors, crew leaders and frontline workers ready for supervisory positions.
  • Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP): This certification is for government fleet managers and those who are interested in furthering their career in the fleet industry.
  • Certified Stormwater Manager (CSM): Relevant to public and private sector workers who coordinate and implement public stormwater management programs.
  • Certified Public Works Professional–Management (CPWP-M): For public works managers, superintendents and supervisors ready for management positions.

To begin the certification process, first complete the application process that involves providing proof of specific education and experience requirements. Additionally, you will want to review the study materials and resources, most of which are available for purchase through APWA. Once your application is approved, you may take the comprehensive exam. Each certification has slightly different steps and costs, so the best way to begin the certification process is to check out the link below. Stipends are available from the APWA-MN to pay the fees associated with applying for and taking the CPII and CPFP exams.
